OpenFish - How to set No-Copy/No-Mod permissions?

Postby Dassina » 19 Jan 2009, 13:23

Is it possible to set No-Copy/No-Mod permissions on things that I have created as custom fishing items? As far as I can understand, it's not possible. I'd really like to be able to do this, since I'm working on a Long-Term fishing event that involves a custom Blueprint, and I don't want people endlessly copying the parts they need for the Blueprint.

When you create new prim objects in SL the default permissions for the next owner are no-mod, no-copy, trans-ok.

Looking at your creations they will appear copy/mod/trans for you because you are the owner and creator, there is no way to make it so you cannot mod/copy it (*). What you want to do is set the "next owner" permissions, so that when you give it to someone (when they get it from your prize giver) they get the new permissions that you've set. Again, the default next-owner permissions are no-mod, no-copy, trans-ok. This is the permission of most of the normal 7seas fish.

(*)if you want to test this, give something you have made to a friend and have them give it back to you. Or if you have an alt, give it to the alt and have them give it back. This triggers the 'next owner' and when you get it back, you are now the 'third owner' and you will no longer be able to mod or copy it.

SL can be a little odd when you're trying to set permissions. Because SL doesn't like items with NO permissions, sometimes the transfer box is grayed out until you click Copy or Modify. Then you can turn on Transfer and turn the other two back off. (if I'm remembering correctly...)
